Forge Lesson 47: Kleenex Testing

Godly_Perfection writes:

Don't Think Twice before reading this one. Just do it.

I'm back again folks from a busy past week of testing and tweaking Think Twice over and over again. We appreciate everyone's support so far and thanks to all of your feedback (and Urk's support) we have changed a ton since releasing the public beta and it is climbing towards perfection. Today's lesson is something that we tried to focus on during several of our playtests.  Kleenex Testing has allowed us to observe the First Impressions of players who have never played the map before to help improve it for players who download the map with no previous knowledge of it... like those of you who download maps from the Most Downloaded and Most Recommended searches in-game. Enjoy today's lesson. The next lesson will cover the other side of the spectrum.

Lesson 47: Kleenex Testing

* Kleenex testing is used to replicate the situation where players download and play a map while knowing nothing about it
* While it is difficult to create a purely sterile environment, you can still withhold as much information as possible
* Kleenex testing allows designers to study and perfect the first impressions of their creations before releasing their content

Reach your high-point on Pinnacle!

As a Halo 2 veteran, I have fond memories of good ol' Ascension. You know, things like flying a Banshee around while dodging the locked-on rockets, playing hide-and-seek, tower of power, and zombies. Halo: Reach's counterpart, Pinnacle, shares strong similarities to Ascension, minus the Banshee and the super-jumping. If you haven't played it yet, or if you're not a Halo 2 vet, get ready for one of the funnest (that's a word now, I don't care 3rd grade teacher, I don't care!!!) maps around. So let's get down to it...

Tyrant's Halo 3: ODST Legendary Walkthrough - Uplift Reserve

Tyrant122312 writes:

It's a walk in the park!

Thanks to the sudden exodus of Regret's cruiser, your drop pod has been blasted way off course.  Result?  You've crash landed on the outskirts of New Mombasa's very own nature reserve.  Stepping into the shoes of Dutch, your mission is simple; make it to New Mombasa and link up with the rest of your squad.

Sure it sounds simple enough, but thanks to the hordes of Covenant armor standing between you and the city limits, reaching your destination won't exactly be a walk in the park... or will it?

Watch as the Tyrant guides you through the streets of New Mombasa, rockets you through what's left of the Uplift Nature Reserve, and has you home in time for dinner.  Easiest mission in the game and BY FAR the best candidate for Vidmaster Classic.  So if you've been waiting for an opportunity to catch up on those ODST achievements, now is definitely the time to mount up and join the fight!

This week, Teabag Prevention shows you how to take control of Powerhouse!

Powerhouse is a medium-sized map where the majority of the battles are  medium to long-range. There are no vehicles on this map. Sure, you'll have your occasional close quarters battle, but that's what your fists are for... and Gravity Hammers. They're for that too. Aside from that, it only makes sense to pick up a rifle on this map, along with Rockets, Grenade Launcher, Sniper Rifle, and...and...

Bungie All Stars - Week 14

Taming of the Hunters.

I didn't get a whole lot of screenshots featuring Hunters last week. That makes me sad. You want me to be happy, right?

  1. Two categories this week. Snap a screenshot with one or two Hunters in the shot (more is okay, too). Or, if you'd rather cook up your own creation, go ahead and crank out some custom art featuring the same sunject material. I'll judge both categories independently.
  2. You have from this very second until Thursday, April 14th at 11:59pm PT to submit your entry for consideration to [email protected].
  3. Use the subject line “Bungie All Star Week 14” without the quotation marks.
  4. The size limit for attachments is 10MB. Include a preview image and a link to the original in your file share, or an external host for artwork.
  5. One submission per person. Please include your Bungie.net profile and gamertag in your email.

Keep in mind that I've seen plenty of existing Hunter screenshots. New stuff only for the competition, please. As always, we'll have stars ready for the winning submissions.

Tyrant's Halo 3: ODST Legendary Walkthrough - Tayari Plaza

Tyrant122312 writes:

Immediately after drop...

The streets of New Mombasa can finally rejoice! A team of heroes has finally arrived on the scene and YOU are at the head of the pack. Unfortunately at the moment, you find yourself alone and surrounded by darkness. In the background, the city quietly burns from the Covenant aftermath as silent figures stalk you from the shadows. It's up to you to link up with the rest of your squad and escape the post-apocalyptic city alive.

Your first stop? Jumping into the shoes of your love-struck squad leader Sgt Buck. The objective? Rescue the damsel in distress before the Covenant find her first. You'll have several zesty tools at your disposal, including the new silenced Magnum (Scope included. Batteries sold separately.), and of course the man in white himself, the Tyrant, will be using his mysteriously gloved hand to help point you in the right direction. Stay tuned, folks. This is only the beginning!

Zev's 3rd Halo: Reach Montage

It's the way on the stage.

This is Zev's 3rd Halo: Reach montage, edited by Revenge. The gameplay features a nice, balanced mix of MLG and non-MLG footage, showcasing a sweet killtacular on Narrows among other good, clean sniper multikills. The editing is quite good as well. The flow is very smooth; there's a lot of syncing and the effects and angles used for syncing purposes are all well done and well placed. Enjoy!
