Pillar of Art Contest
Pillar of Art Contest
Our friends over at
HBO just wrapped up a giant Halo fan art contest called the
Pillar of Art. Over twenty submissions were sent in ranging from sketches to oil paintings to a full 3D model of a Battle Rifle! All of these pieces are to be displayed in an actual art gallery sometime next month. (more details to come)
Congratulations to Adam Vehige who won first place. Second place went to Richard Menchaca, third to Russ Leach and a special award goes out to Geoff Chang.
Everyone did a fantastic job and all of the entries are very impressive. Head over to the
gallery and see for yourself.

Sorry about the downtime earlier today. Remember last week when we had a DNS change? Well, today, we hooked up the servers that we moved into the new datacenter back into our server cluster. This means more people can view our site at once. So, again, sorry about the unannounced downtime.

Wow. There sure were a lot of entries for the Halo 2 content contest. It's taken me hours to sift through most of the entries and mark the good ones. For those of you patiently waiting, thank you. For those of you impatiently waiting, sending me messages while doing the pee-pee dance, be patient, your time is coming. I plan to do a write-up and announce the winners early next week.

Marathon Matures
Marathon Matures
The guys over at the
Marathon OpenSource project, Aleph One, have done a major update to the application. Although we've noted before that they had TCP/IP working before, it is now running much more stable and they have played a successful 7 player game over the internet.
There are executables for both Windows and OSX. Keep up the good work, guys.

Thanks to all of you that have submitted your entries to have your rapier wit displayed in a unintelligibly dark corner of the Halo 2 UI.
Due to the overwhelming response (and boneheads submitting disqualified duplicate entries) we ended up creating a second database to accomodate all your submissions. If you had something useful and witty to say, I hope you got in.
It is at this time, that I'm sorry to say, the plug has been pulled. We will accept no more new submissions, and I get the daunting task of sifting through hundreds of phrases to find the perfect three to be used.
I will announce the winners as soon as I have them chosen. No whining kids. No flooding my inbox with pleads. No bribes- well okay, you can bribe me but it won't affect the outcome of who I choose. No late submissions. The gavel has cracked. Elvis has left the building.
Moving Day!
Moving Day!
On Wednesday afternoon, there will be one or two short periods of downtime for bungie.net for some server maintenance. This is all related to us moving our servers to a new location. You should see minimal impact other than a small performance loss over the next week due to the backup database server being slower than the primary (which will be offline). Performance will return to normal levels by the end of next week - if you even notice any performance loss at all.

Box of soap
Gotta remember to pack my own little bottle of dishwashing fluid or something whenever I go on a little trip! Anyways, the next soapbox is up. It's been considered "messed up", or "cute" or "awesome". I was going to call it "Halo: Life Evolved", or "Seven"... but "
Bungie. Halo. Seven. Blam." seems more appropriate. Have fun! :)

At this year's FanFest, some of the guys took center stage to answer your questions about Halo, Halo 2 and the Bungie way. I had the pleasure of moderating the chat which consisted of pre-collected online submissions and live attendee questions. Our friends over at
halo.bungie.org have finished the
transcript of this discussion and it's now available for your enjoyment. Go check it out!
